Toyota’s Teaser on 2nd-Generation RAV4 EV

November 11,2010

Toyota’s investment in Tesla Motors is about to bear its first fruit. The RAV4 Electric Vehicle will have its long delayed second-generation. The first RAV4EV (1997-2003) became a cult car, particularly in the USA. The car was leased out, then sold to owners at the end of the lease period, at their request. An estimated 800 of the first-gen RAVEV are still running, some with reportedly very high mileages (up to 250,000 km) on the original battery pack.

The new car will be co-engineered by start-up Tesla Motors and will debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show. Sales are scheduled to begin by 2012.
