Cars we can have: Peugeot 308 first photos

June 14,2013

The Peugeot 307 was one of the more interesting compacts back when it was still being sold in the Philippines, and now its successor has been announced. With new distributor Eurobrands Philippines committed to capturing at least 5% of the market, the 308 will surely make its way here.

The new car features a handsome exterior, with the brand’s now trademark “floating” front grille and slim full-LED headlamps, a segment first. Similarly, the lion claws or scratchmarks are drawn by the LED taillamps. The car clocks in at 4.25 meters length.

Inside, the cockpit will reportedly have a button-less design, with a 9.7-inch touch screen taking the place of the usual physical buttons and switches. Peugeot calls it the i-cockpit, meaning intense, innovative and intuitive. Hopefully it will not follow the path of previous attempts at removing all buttons into ineptness. The French brand also promises new high-quality materials for the interior surfaces, including satin chrome or gloss black trim. The heads-up display system, with a different version featured on the 3008, will likewise be available.

The weight of the 308 has been reduced by 140kg, and this together with reported improvements in suspension and steering, will make the car more responsive to drive.

The 308 will be officially launched in September at the Frankfurt Motor Show and we expect it to be available in Manila by 2014.
