This is actually Somewhat Sensible Crossover News, but since it’s about Ssangyong, we couldn’t resist. The Ssangyong Korando, previously a hardcore Jeep derivative, is now back, but in crossover guise.
In place of body-on-frame construction, the Korando is now a monocoque crossover poised to tackle the likes of the Hyundai Tucson and Kia Sportage. The sole engine choice will be a 173-bhp 2.0-liter diesel, mated to either two or four-wheel drive system.
The new model was penned by Giorgetto Giugiaro, designer of the Lotus Esprit, DeLorean DMC-12, Ferrari 250 GT, and now…this. Let’s be reminded that Korando is a contraction of “Korea Can Do.”
Ssangyong had a near-death experience last year, then got a new lease on life when Indian utility vehicle manufacturer Mahindra & Mahindra agreed to a partnership.
