Hyundai Asia Resources Inc., the Philippine distributor of Hyundai cars, has revealed the all-new 2011 Accent. The new car sports more distinctive styling, following the “fluidic design” of the new Sonata and Tucson, and new gasoline engines.
The Accent is markedly longer, at 4340 mm, riding on a 2570 mm wheelbase. Width is 1700 mm and height 1460 mm.
Two variants are available. The base Accent (P580,000) will be powered by a 1.4-liter gasoline engine paired with a manual transmission. The engine produces 106 bhp. Then comes a steep jump to the high-end variant, priced at P808,000. For that price, you get a 1.6-liter engine with 125 bhp and a four-speed automatic transmission (so much for the six-speed available elsewhere in the world). The top-spec Accent comes with front fog lamps, dual airbags, auto climate control, half-leather seats, and steering wheel audio controls. The tires are on the small side, 175mm on 14-inch wheels.
Interior room is competitive with the Honda City, and feels roomier than the Vios. The dash textures feel far superior the previous Accent’s, and the headliner and sun visor are of quality fabric. The trunk looks like it can match the City’s massive 500-liter volume. We’ll post more specs are they are made available.
Still nowhere in sight is the diesel option that’s popular with fleet and taxi companies. We hope this comes soon, as many private buyers would no doubt want a diesel powertrain as well. As it is, the Accent will still make life more difficult for the Toyota Vios and Honda City next year.
In other news, Hyundai also displayed an all-new electric car, the Hyundai Genesis Coupe electric. Unfortunately, it’s just in 1:10 scale and as the sign clearly states in Grinch-worthy all caps, “THIS ITEM IS NOT FOR SALE.”
