Mitsubishi builds new factory in Thailand for its "Global Small" car

December 14,2010

Mitsubishi is one step closer to assembling its new “Global Small” car—in Thailand. That step is the construction of a new factory in Thailand, about 100km from Bangkok, its third in that country. The new factory will be online by March 2012 and will produce Mitsubishi’s new city car.

That “Global Small” car is a 1.0-1.2 liter microcar similar in size to Honda’s upcoming Brio hatchback and Toyota’s Etios and Hyundai’s i10. The car will be based on a completely new platform, keywords being compact, affordable, and fuel-efficient. The car will conform to Thailand’s Eco-car Project standards.

Mitsubishi is planning 150,000 units annual production, and eventually hitting 200,000 units, including exports. The factory will hire 3000 new employees.
