Toyota is all set to expand its Prius line. As you may very well have read some months ago, Toyota’s plan for its Prius line was not simply to introduce successive models, but to expand the brand name to encompass several models of hybrid cars. Now that phase is set to begin, with the introduction of a Prius seven-seater at the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS, aka Detroit Auto Show).
The Prius minivan (or Prius Verso as some reports have suggested) will have the aforementioned seven seats, and will retain the Prius hatchback’s 1.8-liter gasoline engine. The car will have 50% more cargo room than the hatchback, as well as a more-advanced entertainment system, as befits a kid-carrier. The engine will reportedly be tuned for more power, to cope with the minivan’s greater weight.
Toyota will also launch the Prius Plug-In Hybrid model as well as a concept car at NAIAS.
