According to a report in the Manila Bulletin, four car distributors have left the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines Inc. (CAMPI). Hyundai Asia Resources Inc., Scandinavian Motors Corp. (Volvo), Focus Ventures Inc. (Chana), and The Covenant Car Company Inc. (Chevrolet) will no longer be CAMPI members starting January 2011. According to CAMPI president Elizabeth Lee, Focus left because it cannot afford the membership fee (P500,000 for a regular member, and P250,000 for an associate member). The other three companies, which are owned by Richard Lee, did not state any reason.
According to Ms. Lee, the four outgoing members may still submit their 2010 sales figures, to be included in the CAMPI tally. It’s understood that they may no longer do so starting this month. CAMPI was targeting 175,000 unit sales for 2010, a record figure for the Philippine car industry.
