Who’s the Boss? Ford auctions a one-off Mustang

January 08,2011

Want your eyeballs to water? (No, don’t think of Grace Park in a bikini.) Just stare at that photo of the 2012 Ford Mustang Boss 302 Laguna Seca. Ford’s AutoAlliance plant in Michigan will produce exactly one piece of that car painted in Grabber Blue. The car will be auctioned off at the famed Barrett-Jackson event, its 40th Annual Collector Car Auction, for the benefit of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

The Boss 302 Laguna Seca is named after the famous racetrack, at which Parnelli Jones won the 1970 Trans-Am season opener in a Boss 302. Mr. Jones himself will be providing commentary at the auction.

Aside from its Grabber Blue paintwork, the one-off Mustang will have distinctive black accents on the roof, mirros, and spoiler, Citic Dicastal wheels, Recaro streets, rear X-brace and Grabber Blue grille surround.

The Boss will not just be about looks. It features tuned suspension, chassis modifications, and various aerodynamic bits to make it go faster around the track—capable of 1.03 g lateral acceleration. Ford calls it a “ready-for-racing” Boss, promising that it can top the BMW M3.
If you’re inclined to pick up a piece of mustang history, the Barrett-Jackson auction will be at Scottsdale, Arizona starting January 17.
