Tokyo Auto Salon 2011: Toyota’s semi-mad concepts

January 18,2011

Tokyo Auto Salon is the world’s largest annual aftermarkets parts show, and it brings with it all the wackiness of the Japanese tuning scene.

Toyota showed three official entries to the show, based on the iQ, Auris, and Prius. The Gazoo Racing tuned by MN (GRMN) iQ Racing Concept is tuned by Toyota’s motorsport partner. Looking like a very angry mouse, the car comes equipped with a supercharged engine and racing rollcage. There’s a chance it will be produced in limited numbers; Gazoo’s previous iQ concept car went on to a sold-out run in 2009.

TRD showcased an Auris GT concept (the Auris is essentially the European version of Corolla), and G Sports displayed a Sports Concept version of the Prius—why, because it’s Japan’s best-selling car, and hybrids need tuning love too. The Prius Sports Concept has some Nissan GT-R vibe going for it, while the Auris, well, it’s a Corolla.
