Peugeot stages it first Eco Run

Total Fuel Peugeot fun run

Total is the official fuel of the Peugeot Eco Fun Run

Eurobrands Distributor Inc. (EDI), the official importer and distributor of Peugeot vehicles in the Philippines, conducted an eco fun run recently testing the fuel efficiency of its Peugeot 3008 model. This compact and yet spacious crossover is manufactured in Eastern France at Peugeot’s Sochaux manufacturing plant. The 3008 combine the virtues of an SUV, MPV and hatchback with a blend of a taller ride height, improved traction and versatility of a hatchback.

The 3008’s e-HDi new generation Stop and Start system automatically switches off the engine whenever it stops and becomes stationary. It seamlessly starts on demand as a quick step on the pedal allows the car to have a quick and smooth restart.  In the eco mode, Peugeot’s eHDi system shuts down the engine but essential systems like a/c blower and audio still remains on.  Another Peugeot technology at work for a cleaner environment is its Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) system which works in conjunction with the micro-hybrid system  by eliminating harmful particulates of any size found in unclean fuels by collecting them in a filtration system and simply burning them up.

Its highly efficient HDi (High-pressure Direct Injection) engines (1.6 and 2.0 liter variants) consume around 30% to 50% less fuel and release 30% to 50% less CO2 than an equivalent turbocharged gasoline car of equivalent size. With about 15% lesser diesel consumption and up to 5g/km less in CO2 emissions, the 3008 offer a fuel efficient as well as green option to today’s conscientious car owners. Aside from its fuel consumption, about 90% of Peugeot cars parts are recyclable.

Some 20 members of the media were invited last week to test the fuel efficiency of the 3008 1.6L e-HDi Peugeot 3008 variant to a 158 kilometer route from Alabang to Batangas and back under normal driving conditions. This means turning the air-conditioner at a pre-set thermostat temperature setting, as the drivers maintained normal highway speeds.

Brian Afuang of Manila Times and Jenny Bleza of Sunshine TV won as most fuel efficient team, consuming an average of an amazing 26.9 km/liter The father and son team of Ron and Ronald de los Reyes of Auto Review came in second with a 26.3 km/liter average. The third place went to Iñigo Roces of Manila Bulletin and Vince Pornelos of autoindustriya.com, who had an average of 25.7 km/liter.  “We have always been confident about our vehicles and their fuel-saving capabilities. The Peugeot 3008 in particular, has given us good mileage numbers since we brought the units in. Even heavy-footed drivers can drive up to 14 km/liter in mixed city and highway driving while using the 3008 – on diesel fuel at that. Given tips on how to properly drive the vehicles and maximize the fuel-saving e-HDi technology, anyone can improve on that number and take it up to past the 20 km/liter range. The Peugeot Eco Fun Run only proved to many what we at EDI already know – and that is that we have some of the most fuel-efficient vehicles not just in the country, but the world over,” said Dong Magsajo, Marketing & Communications Director of EDI.

The Peugeot Eco Fun Run was made possible with the support of Total Philippines – the event’s official fuel partner, Manila Toll Expressway Systems, Inc. – operator of the South Luzon Expressway, Sofitel Hotel and Acacia Hotel.
