Revised Subaru Forester to Bow in 2Q 2011

September 03,2010

Reports are saying that Subaru will be giving its Forester the nip/tuck treatment for the 2011 model year. Though the photos we have are of the current 2010 model, it’s safe to assume that there will be minor tweaks for the new Forester.

What’s more important though is the reports of a brand-new family of 2.0-liter and 2.5-liter Boxer engines. This is pretty significant since it’s the first time the Boxer engine has been significantly changed for quite some time. Reports are saying that the new engines will focus more on fuel efficiency this time around. In the North American market, the 2.5-liter sheds its SOHC head to a DOHC while ditching its timing belt for a chain at the same time. It’s safe to assume that the rest of the Boxer family will receive the same treatment–the use of a timing chain.

Additionally, the 2.0-liter will reportedly receive a CVT transmission to replace the aging 4-speed slush box. It won’t come as a surprise if Subaru will decide to gift the 2.5XT the same 5-speed automatic found in the Legacy GT.

Even more important is news that the 2011 Forester will land in Philippine shores by the second quarter of 2011! Updates to follow.
