Subaru has shown the design direction for the next iteration of the Subaru Impreza, and the design is basically: mini-Legacy. Called “Confidence in Motion,” the new design and brand strategy is embodied in the concept car.
The hexagonal grille from the Legacy makes its way to the Impreza, and the wing motif previously seen in the interior is now used for the headlamps and foglights. While it carries the low and wide stance of the WRX STI, the car looks markedly more mature. The rear features a nicely-chiseled integration of bumper and taillights, complete with “venturi tunnels” under the bumper.
Inside, the Impreza will have a large touchscreen-based multimedia system integrating audio and navigation. A roof-mounted camera called EyeSight sends images to a monitor in the center of gauge cluster and also sends data to a collision-prevention system.
The base engine will be a 2.0-liter naturally-aspirated boxer (naturally), but mated to a CVT and of course, all-wheel drive.
Keep your checkbooks then, until late 2011 or 2012.
