Silver is the new black—and so is black itself. The metallic color has made a comeback after losing out to white in the past couple of years. This is according to the Global Automotive Color Popularity Report compiled by DuPont, which knows a thing or two about car paint. Silver leads black by only two percentage points, 26 percent to 24. Gray has been steadily gaining ground to tie with white for third place at 16 percent each, followed by red at 6 percent and blue at 5 percent.
The survey is on the popularity of car colors worldwide; DuPont also compiled lists for some major markets. White reigned supreme overall in North America for the fourth year in a row. Black was the most popular in Europe, while silver was tops in China. Japan continued to favor white, as did India.
