After the debut of the Mini Countryman SUV, could this have been far behind? Following BMW’s penchant for slicing into every conceivable automotive niche, Mini is unveiling a “design concept” two-door version of the Countryman; this one will be called Paceman.
In what is probably a first for a brand that doesn’t exactly produce macho cars, the Paceman is a bid to go for a “sporting, masculine appearance” with “visual muscle car design cues.” Paceman adds such masculine elements as different indicators to 19-inch wheels, dark wheel arch surrounds and matching side, er, skirts. Mini’s trademark floating-look roof remains.
The Paceman Concept is 4110mm long, 1789mm wide and 1541mm tall. Power in the concept version is provided by the most powerful engine in the Mini stable, the John Cooper Works 1.6-liter twin turbo. With 211bhp and 280Nm on tap, it should make for a less-girlie car than any regular Mini. As with the Countryman, Paceman will be available in front and all-wheel drive versions.
