The Subaru Legacy will soon have company in the executive wagon market: Hyundai’s “Sonata wagon,” officially called the i40. The i40 D-segment wagon is meant to be Hyundai’s flagship model in Europe. Hyundai aims to become a more aspirational brand by focusing on its cars’ quality, performance and styling features.
The i40 was designed at Hyundai’s R&D facilities in Rüsselsheim, Germany and is specifically designed for the European market.The i40 will of course have the “fluidic design” seen in the Sonata, as well as a range of engines developed under the “Blue Drive” eco-program. (The new Accent also carries a Blue Drive badge.) The sedan version of the i40, aka the Sonata and already available in the USA and in the Philippine Islands, is scheduled to follow the wagon in Europe.
