Nissan Launches all-new Teana

August 19,2010

Whoever said that the midsize sedan market is dead? Certainly not Nissan Motor Philippines, which raises the stakes with its launch of the all-new Teana. It’s a welcome move from company, following its launch of the new Sentra and X-Trail a few weeks ago.

Looking like the child of an Infiniti G and a Mercedes E, the Teana looks follows the melted-candybar look of its predecessor. Styling flourishes include a 3D-effect grille. The new D-Platform is shared with the US-market Altima and Maxima.

Powering the Teana is the latest version of the venerable VQ V6 engine that has been powering midsize Nissans since the late 1990s. Updates to the engine include valve lifters coated with diamond-like carbon, reducing friction within the valvtrain. The 2.5-liter is good for 182 bhp and 232 Nm. The only transmission available is a CVT. Quoted 0-100km/h acceleration time of 9.8 seconds.

Interior features include (we kid you not) Ottoman-equippped front passenger seats that provide a “welcoming hospitality appeal.” The leg rests pop out with power assist, similar to that in business-class airline seats. The TEana’s moonroof features a glass panel that slides back over the roof, thus not eating up headroom unlike conventional moonroofs. A transponder key system is also available.

Allen Chen, president of Nissan motor Philippines: “We promised to deliver the best products that we can offer, and with the introduction of Nissan Sentra 200, Nissan X-Trail CVT and now, the all-new Nissan Teana, we can truly say we delivered. (Teana is) characterized by premium design, performance and comfort, exemplifies how we value the Filipino consumers’ taste and value.”

The Teana will be at Nissan dealerships starting September 4.
