Ford Philippines introduced the new Fiesta model at Bonifacio Global City’s High Street last July 18. The popular sub-compact sports a redesigned exterior and refreshed interior and is also packed with upgraded tech enhancements that include the Ford SYNC hands-free in-car connectivity. It can be remembered that the new Fiesta had a one-day public sneak peek at the 2013 Manila International Auto Show (MIAS) held last April 4 at the World Trade Center.
Ford expects the new Fiesta will be poised to redefine the small car segment with its exciting new bold design, segment-leading fuel economy, class-leading safety features and all-new smart technologies. With eight variants, the new Fiesta will be available in Ford showrooms nationwide starting next month and will come in two powertrain options: the global 1.5L twin independent variable camshaft timing (Ti-VCT) engine, and the award-winning 1.0L EcoBoost engine available later in the year.
“Our aim with the new Ford Fiesta was to take a popular car that was already a segment leader in fuel efficiency, performance and personality, and make it even better,” said Kay Hart, managing director, Ford Philippines. “Ford Fiesta continues to push the boundaries and seal its credentials as the small car that stands out from the competition.” She added.
The redesigned front that features a trapezoidal front grille and laser-cut headlamp design that forms part of Ford’s new design language and is a signature of Ford’s new global family. Covering the engine is a power-dome hood design that is also a new feature to the Fiesta’s new exterior, giving it a more aggressive profile. While its rear design gave the tail lamps more detail that complements its belt lines starting from its headlamps. The five-door hatchback also comes with a new rear spoiler while the four-door sedan sports a redesigned deck lid and bumper fascia. The new Fiesta comes in ten colors including Arctic White, Black Mica, Highlight Silver, Metropolitan Grey, Ice Blue, True Red, Aurora Blue, Chili Orange, Phantom Purple and Celestial Blue.
Inside, the new Ford Fiesta features a high-gloss finish for its dashboard paneling and comes with a matching finish in its door panels. Ford’s signature Ice Blue lighting that illuminates its dials, switches and displays matches well with its satin-chrome trim finish. The new Fiesta also is fitted new seat fabric designs as well as options for full leather and partial leather upholstery.
The new Fiesta will be powered by Ford’s global 1.5L Ti-VCT four-cylinder engine, with 112 PS of power at 6,300 rpm and peak torque of 140 Nm at 4,400 rpm. The Ti-VCT technology allows extremely precise, variable control of “valve overlap”, which is the window of time in which both the intake and exhaust valves in an engine are open at the same time, allowing improved low-speed torque and increased fuel economy. It comes with Ford’s efficient PowerShift six-speed automatic transmission or the five-speed manual transmission. Later in the year, Ford announced that the new Fiesta will also be available with its patented 1.0L EcoBoost engine, which was recently named the 2013 International Engine of the Year, winning the award for the second consecutive year.
Today’s tech-savvy smartphone users can enjoy personalized and easy connectivity with the Fiesta’s SYNC that enables the driver to answer phone calls and select music from devices connected via Bluetooth or USB, and listen to text messages by simply using voice commands, making driving safer as this helps drivers to keep their hands on the wheel and eyes on the road at all times. “New Ford Fiesta was built for the digital generation,” said Hart. “With SYNC,Bluetooth® connectivity and MP3 capabilities, the tech-savvy can be constantly plugged into their favourite music and connected to their world while on the go.”
Another segment-leading feature includes the Smart Keyless Entry, enabling the driver to unlock the car or to start the engine without its keys, simply by unlocking the doors automatically when pulling the door handle and pushing the Ford Power Start button to start the engine. Safety and driver-assist features include standard airbags for the driver and front passenger, Electronic Stability Program (ESP), back-up parking sensors and Hill Launch Assist that helps drivers make a perfect hill start whether it’s uphill or downhill, by holding the car for up to three seconds on the slope.
According to Ford, the new Fiesta variants will first feature the 1.5L Ti-VCT engine, in both automatic and manual transmissions, and will be available at Ford showrooms nationwide starting in August while the new 5-door Fiesta Sport+ with the 1.0L EcoBoost engine will be available to customers later in the year.
