CATS Reveals 2011 Dodge Durango, Challenger, Charger

CATS Motors revealed the 2011 Dodge Durango, Challenger and Charger last Wednesday. The new cars continue Dodge’s recent spell of distinctive, performance-oriented vehicles, while paying much attention to the interiors and, reportedly, ride comfort and fuel efficiency (relatively speaking).

First off is the Dodge Durango, restyled to look more like its passenger-car siblings. The Dodge crosshair grille is front and center, with Charger-style headlamps, too. Overall, it looks sleeker and much more modern. CATS is bringing in the Durango Citadel AWD Sport. This means of course that all four wheels are driven. Citadel means the highest interior trim level: three rows of leather seats, sunroof, nicer interior lighting. The Durango boasts of a 30GB hard-drive based entertainment system. The Dodge U-Connect pairs up with your Bluetooth cellphone to enable voice command, even of the phone book contents.

Durango is propelled by a 3.6-liter gasoline V6, which Dodge calls the most powerful in its class. It’s no slouch, at 290 bhp and 352 Nm. Drive goes through a five-speed automatic transmission.

For those who need family transport and still feel some V8 American muscle under the hood, Chrysler is offering the Charger sedan. Newly-styled and enlarged for 2011, the Charger features a distinctive front and particularly neat full-width taillamp treatment. The taillamp hits just the right spot between retro and modern.

Powering Charger is Dodge’s 5.7-liter HEMI V8, pumping out 360 bhp and 528 Nm. Wheels are massive 20-inchers, and the feature list is similarly long.

Then there’s the Challenger R/T, which can put up a decent fight against offerings from Ford and Chevrolet. The Challenger is also HEMI-powered, with its engine good for 372 bhp and 542 Nm. The V8 can shut down into four-cylinder mode when coasting or cruising, to help save fuel. A five-speed automatic takes care of the shifting. There’s a long standard features list as well, from power driver’s seat to Boston Acoustic audio.

If you want even more horses under the hood, the Challenger is also offered in SRT8 guise. Displacement goes up to 6.1 liters, power to 425 bhp and torque to 589 Nm. Brembo brakes are thankfully available for the SRT8.

The cars will be on display during Dodge’s “Fast and Fierce” Weekend, June 10 to 12 at the Chrysler showrooms in Pasong Tamo and Greenhills. The Dodge Durango, Charger, Challenger and Nitro will all be at the Powerplant Mall from June 13 to 19.
