As a motorist, we sorely miss MMDA’s 1206 radio station. Yes, it had inane public service announcements, but in between were valuable updates on traffic conditions on EDSA and C5. If both were as clogged as a carnivore’s arteries, there was actually not much you could do, but at least it let you know what you were in for.
Now, the MMDA has launched its Metro Manila Traffic Navigator website, which shows onscreen how traffic is flowing on EDSA, C5, Quezon Avenue / Espana, Roxas Boulevard, and SLEX. It’s a real-time system (well, updated every 5-10 minutes) and shows these major roads on a grid similar to a subway map. You can switch between northbound and southbound views, select which road to view, or just watch the entire map turn red while cackling madly. Here’s the website:

While the system is on Beta mode, it will be updated from 6:00 to 22:00.
Until we get a more sophisticated public traffic information system, it is much, much better than nothing. (Thanks to Shan for the tip.)
