July 24,2013

Last week, Ford Philippines introduced the new Fiesta model at BGC’s High Street. After a short but sweet one-day public sneak peek at the 2013 Manila International Auto Show (MIAS), Ford fans and the buying public was kept in anticipation when the new model will be in the showrooms.

The wait will soon be over. The popular sub-compact now sports a redesigned exterior and refreshed interior and is also packed with upgraded tech enhancements that include the Ford SYNC hands-free in-car connectivity. Industry observers and car enthusiasts called this new front design as the “Aston Martin grille” after international auto magazines have given it the moniker. The redesigned front that features a trapezoidal front grille and laser-cut headlamp design that forms part of Ford’s new design language and is a signature of Ford’s new global family.

Ford Philippines is positioning the new Fiesta to effectively get a sizeable pie in the small car segment with its exciting new bold design, segment-leading fuel economy, class-leading safety features and all-new smart technologies.  All in all it will have eight variants and it will be available in Ford showrooms nationwide starting next month starting off with one powertrain options first, its global 1.5L twin independent variable camshaft timing (Ti-VCT) engine. Ford’s award-winning 1.0L EcoBoost engine variants will be made available later in the year.

“Our aim with the new Ford Fiesta was to take a popular car that was already a segment leader in fuel efficiency, performance and personality, and make it even better,” said Kay Hart, managing director of Ford Philippines. “Ford Fiesta continues to push the boundaries and seal its credentials as the small car that stands out from the competition,” she added.

More features

Adding to its aggressive profile is a power-dome hood design that is also a new feature to the Fiesta’s exterior. Its rear design also gave the tail lamps more detail that complements its belt lines starting from its headlamps. The five-door hatchback variant also comes with a new rear spoiler while the four-door sedan sports a redesigned deck lid and bumper fascia. Inside, the new Ford Fiesta features a high-gloss finish for its dashboard paneling and comes with a matching finish in its door panels.  Ford’s signature Ice Blue lighting that illuminates its dials, switches and displays matches well with its satin-chrome trim finish. Powered by Ford’s global 1.5L Ti-VCT four-cylinder engine, it has 112 PS of power at 6,300 rpm and peak torque of 140 Nm at 4,400 rpm. The Ti-VCT technology allows extremely precise, variable control of “valve overlap,” which is the window of time in which both the intake and exhaust valves in an engine are open at the same time, allowing improved low-speed torque and increased fuel economy that is matched with Ford’s efficient PowerShift six-speed automatic transmission or the five-speed manual transmission. Later in the year, Ford announced that the new Fiesta will also be available with its patented 1.0L EcoBoost engine, which was recently named the 2013 International Engine of the Year, winning the award for the second consecutive year.
