The Chevrolet Colorado may not be familiar to Philippine motorists, but its twin certainly is: the Isuzu D-MAX, with which it shares a platform. GM recently announced a new version of the Colorado, to debut in the upcoming Bangkok Motor Show. The exciting part is, GM Philippines, aka The Covenant Car Company Inc., is planning to introduce the new Colorado soon after its debut–perhaps later this year.
Details are still sketchy, as GM has only shown the new Colorado’s face with the updated Chevy corporate grille.
The reason Chevrolet was not able to sell the earlier generation of Colorado is a reported non-compete agreement with Isuzu for the first generation. Now, it seems all bets are off, and Chevrolet can enter the compact pickup market as well. This also implies a new lease on life for the Isuzu D-MAX, which can move on to a new generation after the countless iterations and special editions that we have seen.

Chevrolet today offered a sneak peek at its Colorado show truck that will officially be unveiled prior to the 32nd Bangkok International Motor Show, which begins March 25.
The show truck previews the next-generation Colorado midsize pickup truck, which will build on Chevrolet’s strong truck DNA and award-winning heritage.
Thailand was chosen as the site of the global debut because of the popularity of pickup trucks and the growing importance of the Thai market to Chevrolet. In 2010, the pickup truck segment accounted for 43 percent of vehicles sold in Thailand. The new Colorado will go on sale there later this year.
“Trucks play a key role in most Southeast Asian markets,” said Susan Docherty, vice president, GMIO Sales, Marketing and Aftersales. “Nowhere is this more evident than in Thailand, where trucks like the Colorado are ingrained in the local lifestyle. Thailand was a natural place to give the public a first glimpse of our all-new Colorado.”
More information on the truck will be revealed at the global premiere. The public can get its first look at the Chevrolet Colorado show truck at the Bangkok International Motor Show from March 25 to April 5.
