Lawn Mowing, Part 1: Honda makes 208 kph lawn mower

By Jason K. Ang July 26,2013

Honda UK has partnered with their British Touring Car Championship partner, Team Dynamics, to build the world’s fastest lawn mower. The super mower can certainly still cut grass, but is capable of a 208 kph top speed and a 0-100 kph time in four seconds. Its noise is also something (not) to experience, at 130 decibels. It has a paddle-shift six-speed gearbox, Cobra sports seat, Scorpion exhaust system, and the steering rack from a Morris Minor.

The so-called Mean Mower is derived from a Honda HF2620 Lawn Tractor. A new chassis, made from chromoly, a type of high-carbon steel, was constructed, and a 1000cc engine from a Honda VTR Firestorm was added. Bespoke suspension and wheels from an ATV complete the setup. The cutter deck is made from fiberglass to reduce weight, while the grass bag itself contains the fuel tank, oil cooler, and water cooling radiator.

The mower part is handled by two electric motors with 3mm steel cutting cables running at 4000 rpm. Mowing speed is 24 kph.

At 532 hp per ton, the Mean Mower has the power to weight ratio of a Bugatti Veyron.
