The words “Kia” and “GT” would have been the most unlikely pairing just a few years ago. Lately, though, the Korean company has been on a roll, with great new designs on its Sportage and Picanto. The cars have an Audi-VW vibe going for them, and it’s no surprise as Kia’s design chief Peter Schreyer moved over from Audi.
Now, Kia is showing off a new concept for a four-door, rear-wheel drive sedan—perhaps a precursor to its own rear-wheel drive sedan; Hyundai has some capable platforms that they can borrow. The design inspiration is reportedly from 1970s GT cars. Thus the jet-age styling cues including propeller-style alloy and carbon-fiber wheels, jet-themed rear-view cameras, low-slung front inake and front winglets. Copper brake calipers, a domed roof, and hood power bulges all add some visual flair.
Organic LEDs are used for the gauges for a 3D-effect (no need for glasses), with fingertip controls on the steering wheel allowing access to the data. Instead of exterior mirrors, rear-view cameras display their images on a pair of LED screens.
The GT, which may give rise to a production version, is powered by a 3.3-liter gasoline V6 good for 391 bhp and 534 Nm. It slots in at a not-too-large 4690mm length.
