Jumping Minis: leaping across three cars in London

October 05,2011

We know Russ Swift can do interesting things with a Mini, but this lends a different meaning to making a Mini jump. As a precursor to the 2012 London Olympics, England long jump champion J.J. Jegede leaped over three Mini London 2012 Edition cars at Potter’s Field, London. Three Minis parked side-by-side are approximately six meters. A successful long jump by a world-class athlete is seven to eight meters, so the pressure was on for Mr. Jegede—no safety net was used.

J.J. Jegede said: “When you watch athletics on TV it’s hard to really understand just how far professional athletes can jump. I’ve always wanted to demonstrate my ability in a fun way, so I jumped at the chance to perform an Evel Knievel-style display. It is my ultimate dream to compete at London 2012. I spend much of my spare time working with young people to get them involved in sport too, but I certainly advise any budding athletes not to try this one at home.”

The Minis are special-edition models that feature a white roof with London 2012 Olympic Games logo. They will be available in the Union Jack colors: red, white, and blue. There’s also a single sport stripe and various logos. Inside, there’s an etching of the London skyline on the dashboard. 2012 units will be sold.
