Kia Philippines launches all new Picanto

May 27,2011

The Kia Picanto caused a considerable stir in the market when the first generation was launched in 2004, not least because it was worlds better than its predecessor, the self-named people’s car, the Kia Pride, and also because of its P350,000 price tag. The price tag kept creeping up, though, and formidable new competitors have sprung up. Thus the all-new Picanto, launching this week. Although inflation has taken its toll, the price looks very attractive, at P545,000 for the manual transmission, and P599,000 for the automatic.

Here’s more from Kia (Columbian Autocar):

For a youth that grew up on “makeovers,” the new Kia Picanto breaks out a new “look”. Its diminutive charms are enhanced by trendy, European-inspired style elements. A more aggressive, sporty, front bumper design provides a “racier” façade. Fog lamps for long drives in cool, misty places are standard. A rear windshield wiper clears the back view, helping you reverse into cramped spaces carefully. There’s enough room for desired company with seating for five (5). Double folding, fold flat rear seats, and slide and recline front buckets give you options for making space. From all this, it’s clear that the new Kia Picanto has a lot to offer as “My Best Pic.”

The dynamic new look embodies the exciting drive provided by the new Kia Picanto’s 1.0 liter, in-line, 3-cylinder Kappa MPI engine. The tiny powerhouse produces 68 bhp at 6,200rpm and 94 Nm of torque at 3,500rpm. It produces a low CO2 emission level, aligning itself well with the environmentally conscious. Savings in gas money are enabled by its fuel economy, making it an excellent investment for this practical, financially literate young market. These automotive attributes make the new Kia Picanto, “My Best Pic” among the young, well-informed and value-minded.
