If you’re hoping that the Flying Finn will return to F1, don’t hold your breath. Kimi Räikkönen seems to be enjoying his stint in rallying. He and navigator Kaj Lindstrom set their first fastest stage time in the World Rally Championship, finishing seventh in the Rallye Deutschland. Kimi drives for the Citroen Red Bull junior (second) team, driving a C4 WRC car.
In his one of his most loquacious interviews to date, Kimi said, “I overshot two junctions and we lost a lot of time. But I enjoyed the stages on Saturday and Sunday. We’re continuing to rack up experience and that’s very important.” Rallye Deutschland was run on asphalt, which may have helped the Finn’s pace. The next race, in France, will also be on asphalt.
On rumors that he might return to F1, perhaps also behind the wheel of a Red Bull car, Kimi was quoted recently, “You never know but I will probably never return to Formula One. It’s something I did for many years; I had many great moments. I won a World Championship title, which is what I always wanted, but times have changed. Now I’m in rallying and there are many other things apart from Formula One in life.”
