Businessman Jose Alvarez, known to his friends as Jim Alvarez, was killed in a car accident late Thursday night in Loyola Heights, Quezon City. Alvarez, 45, died following an accident at the foot of the Katipunan Avenue flyover. According to Senior Inspector Erlito Renegin of the Quezon City Police District Traffic Enforcement Unit, the accident occurred on the southbound lane of Katipunan Avenue near the corner of Xavierville Avenue at around 11:45pm.

Alvarez was driving a new BMW 5-Series GT sedan. A rescue team of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority pulled Alvarez out of the wreck and rushed him to nearby Quirino Memorial Medical Center, where he was declared dead on arrival.

Alvarez was the son of business tycoon and newly-elected Palawan governor Jose Ch. Alvarez. The senior Alvarez is behind the local chain of car distributors for BMW, Kia, and Peugeot. The younger Alvarez also managed several dealerships under those brands.
