Cars We Can Have: Next-gen Ford Focus ST

September 15,2010

There is one major, major reason to anticipate Focus: the Next Generation. Ford has just unveiled the specs and photos of the new Focus ST. The Focus ST is a 248-bhp version of the scalpel-sharp compact that we all love to drive.

Unlike previous versions which have carried a five-cylinder engine, the ST will be powered by a high-output version of Ford’s 2.0-liter EcoBoost turbo gasoline engine. “Exhilarating performance, handling and addictive sound” will be standard, according to Ford. The ST if the first product developed by the Performance Vehicles division.

The Focus ST will join the regular five-door, four-door sedan, and station wagon on the company stand at the Paris Motor Show. The Focus is touted as an embodiment of the One Ford strategy espoused by CEO Alan Mullaly. The Focus rides on Ford’s C platform, which the company expects to carry ten new models within the next couple of years. For the first time, global markets will carry only one Focus, with all models sharing up to 80 percent of their parts.

You may recall that Ford imported one unit of current-generation (pre-facelift) Focus ST, but did not pursue plans to sell it here. Don’t hold your breath for a local version, as the launch will be in 2012. The ST is supposed to be launched in “all global markets” then, hopefully including our Focus-producing nation.

Killer feature: 248-bhp turbo engine
Cool touch: “Tangerine Scream” paint job
Why we can have it: Promised global launch and Philippines is Focus production hub
