Japan’s Drift King Keiichi “DK” Tsuchiya has confirmed that he is coming to Manila for the first time together with his whole crew from Drift Muscle Championships Japan on December 7 and 8 at the Quirino Grandstand in Luneta Park. Organized by Ladder Events Production, R102 Productions and Autocraft Drift Team, the event is dubbed as Toyota Drift Muscle Philippines, which will showcase the best local drifters performing along with the Japanese drift teams – Okinawa Drift Team and Tokyo Drifters. Tsuchiya is the co-founder of Tokyo Auto Salon and Option Magazine, together with his partner, Daijiro Inada. In an earlier statement, he said he was looking forward to make Manila as next drifting hub in Asia. The Drift King will show his drift driving prowess with a trusty classic Toyota AE86 as well as the new Toyota 86.
According to the event’s organizers, the Drift Muscle Championship group will issue be here to promote the use of “Drift Licenses” wherein local drifters can use to join drifting events worldwide. As the originator of the art of drifting, Tsuchiya looks to this event to further promote drift racing in the local automotive scene. The event will be back to back with Bumper to Bumper IX Carshow, believed to be the longest running outdoor carshow in the country. Bumper to Bumper is perhaps the only carshow event that is staged in various key commercial cities around the country with an objective of uniting all the car clubs and the car enthusiasts. The event will be open to the public at 1pm on December 7 and 8, as the drifting competition will start promptly from 1pm and end at 6pm while the carshow will run from 1pm to 10pm in the two day event.
A tribute to Paul Walker of the Fast and Furious
The event is expected to showcase 300 custom show cars with 38 participating car clubs from different parts of the country. Aside from a concert featuring Slapshock and B2B Babes fashion show sponsored by Dickies, music will be provided by Wave 891. A drive-in movie featuring the Fast & the Furious will be shown on Sunday as tribute to the late Paul Walker who recently died in a car accident while en route to a fund drive for the Yolanda victims in the US. Keiichi Tsuchiya also starred in a cameo role in the third installment of the popular car movie called “Fast and Furious Tokyo Drift”.
Organizers pledged half of the proceeds from ticket sales will be donated to Yolanda victims. Tickets for this event are available in all SM Ticket Outlets nationwide.
