Hyundai Lateral Drift season 8 wraps up six rounds of sideways action
The Hyundai Lateral Drift Pro-Am Championship Series 2013 concluded six rounds of heart-stopping drift battles among the country’s best drift drivers last November 30, 2013 at the Megatent in Libis, Quezon City.
This year, the competition shifted to higher gear as Drift Couple from Japan, Hiromi Kajikuma and Kimihiro Obata, graced the series as guest judges for all six rounds.
The winners were honored at the awards ceremony held December 9, 2013 at the offices of title sponsor Hyundai Asia Resources, Inc. (HARI) in Bonifacio Technology Center at Bonifacio Global City. HARI Chairman Edward S. Go and President and CEO Ma. Fe Perez-Agudo, together with Lateral Drift Productions, Inc. President Charlie Cruz presented the awards.
“Pilipinas Got Talent” Season 4 finalist Gio Rodriguez, a consistent top contender throughout the series, placed first in the Pro division line-up. Rodriguez topped 3 out of 6 rounds. Six-time champion Alex Perez bagged 2nd place, while Audel Sison placed third.
Leading the Amateur division was Overall Champion Mark Bernardo, who was also awarded Rookie of the Year 2013. Bernardo was followed by 2nd placer, E.J. Malibiran and 3rd placer, Rob Tan.
In her congratulatory remarks, HARI President and CEO Ma. Fe Perez-Agudo said,
“As we promote Filipino motorsport champions with international clout, we raise Hyundai as a brand to contend with in the world of motorsports and affirm how our cars’ Modern Premium features exceed the expectations, not just of discriminating city drivers, but also of the toughest motorsports contenders.” Ms. Agudo added that the company looks forward to an even more “high-energy” Season 9 of the Hyundai Lateral Drift Series as Hyundai intends to drive greater awareness and create a bigger fanbase for motorsports in the Philippines.
