Chalk one up for the Guinness record books: the longest drive on a single tank of fuel goes to a VW Passat BlueMotion, driven from the UK to France and back, for a distance of 2442.6km. The drivers were a team from the UK’s Sunday Times, driving through mainly French autoroutes and including some town driving.
The Passat was a standard 1.6-liter turbodiesel model with 103 bhp. BlueMotion denotes that the car was fitted with Start/Stop engine, aerodynamic modifications, lower ride height, longer gearing and low rolling resistance tires. The team consumed 77.25 liters of fuel and averaged 72 km/h. Mileage was 31.61 km/liter. The distance was equivalent to driving New York to Los Angeles nonstop, or driving the length of EDSA 101.76 times, without being trapped in the bus lane. Time for Petron to dust off its “Xtreme Challenge” playbook.
