On February 7, a bus with markings of GV Florida Transport Inc. fell off a ravine in Bontoc town in Mountain Province. The bus, journeying from Manila, landed at a small farm in Barangay (village) Talubin. The accident killed 14 people including two foreigners and comedian Arvin “Tado” Jimenez. The accident is the latest in a string of incidents involving public transport buses and jeepneys.
The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has cited brake failure as the cause of the accidents. The LTFRB is under increased public pressure to improve the safety of buses.
