10 things you’ll learn from the Chicdriven Women Empowerment Expo
The Chickdriven Women Empowerment Expo is happening on March 28-30, 2014, at the Alabang Town Center Atrium. Derived from this column, it was geared to help women understand car-speak and hopefully evolve to something more.
From knowledge comes power. In the Expo, we are bringing together different individuals and advocacies to celebrate women empowerment. Presented by the Philippine Daily Inquirer, Zest Asia Inc. and Alabang Town Center, in cooperation with Toyota and Bridgestone, we have made the tools to make “having it all” look effortless. So here are some of the items that you can expect to learn in the Expo.
1. How to drive better. It’s no secret we women are the butt of a lot of driving jokes. So the best revenge is to be more fabulously good at it! There will be two road safety seminars in the Expo, presented by Bridgestone and conducted by the Tuason Racing School instructors including its founder, multiawarded racer and road safety advocate JP Tuason.
2. How to keep your kids safe while traveling in a car. We’ve all seen those scary photos where babies are placed in very awkward positions around the car. Whether it’s stupidity or just plain unawareness I don’t know, but there are things called car seats which protect your children in case you figure in an accident. Learn more about the newest technology on how to keep you kids safe while being mobile.
3. How to cook à la Chef Bruce Lim. Electrolux brings one of the coolest personalities in the culinary world into the spotlight; Chef Bruce Lim shares some recipes anyone can easily do at home, and in a jiffy too! Whether or not you know how to cook, Chef Bruce will put your cooking anxieties to rest while serving up the hottest dishes that are sure to please the whole family’s taste buds.
4. That hepatitis B is the cause of liver cancer. Hepatitis B causes the fourth most common cancer in the country. Hepatitis B can be transmitted from an infected mother to her child during pregnancy. That is why it is important to have yourself tested and vaccinated. Topics on this would be discussed during the Health and Wellness seminar by the Zonta Club of Alabang and Dole. There will also be free hepatitis B screening.
5. How to maintain your car. Have you ever thought of this worst-case scenario: You get a flat tire, your phone just died and you’re in the middle of nowhere? What will you do? Cry? Throw a tantrum? Knowing what to do and how to avoid this are some of the topics of the seminar Toyota Motor Philippines is hosting. This knowledge, plus a couple of useful numbers in your speed dial, can be your best friend car-wise.
6. That being fashionable need not be expensive. Whoever said that wearing “branded” from head to toe is fashionable is making Coco Chanel turn in her grave. Learn the tricks of the trade from Metro’s Geolette Esguerra, and Chalk’s Michelle Katigbak-Alejandro and Kate Paras on looking good for less. Get special insights from Lifestyle Network’s “Listed” host and model Karen Pamintuan.
7. How to change your makeup in minutes. Australia’s leading makeup brand BYS Cosmetics will show you how to do from a “natural” to a “night-out ready” look without slaving away for hours in front of the mirror. They’ll be sharing tips on how to do the sun-kissed look as well—perfect for the summer!
8. How to keep your home in order. Home design experts Anton Baretto and Marissa Lopa, whose DIY columns you see in the Inquirer, will be giving tips on how to beautify your homes and keep them in order. Presented by Brabantia, this seminar includes “hostest with the mostest” tips on entertaining.
9. That holistic wellness is all up to you! Tiffany Simeon from Nurture Wellness Village will not just give tips on how to live a balanced life but also get us up on our feet for some interactive fun that will benefit the mind, body and spirit.
10. How to have it all—that you need not be perfect! Just chic!
