Pirelli, the exclusive tire supplier of Formula One Championship since 2011 was proud to be part of this year’s Manila International Auto Show (MIAS) for the second time in a row. MIAS was held from April 3 to April 6 at the World Trade Center in Pasay City. Through the help of its new distributor PPC Asia Corporation, Pirelli showcased its top-of-the-line products including its P-Zero with its Run Flat tire technology. Pirelli is the sole tire supplier to the FIA Formula One World Championship, Pirelli and the FIA have renewed their Formula One tire supply contract last year and the extension of the renewal is for another three years until 2016.
This year’s competition will be influenced by new technological developments such as the new 1.6L V6 Turbo engine and new energy recovery system, which will have considerably less fuel at disposal and new aerodynamic parameters. All of the 2014 racing slicks feature a new construction and a slightly harder compound to maximize the grip. Each rear tire now weighs 250 grams more and each front tire 200 grams more than last year. Front tires benefit from a redesigned profile while the rear profile remains unaltered. Pirelli’s Cinturato Blue full wet tires have a new rear tread pattern, in order to avoid aquaplaning, by increasing dispersed water at full speed from around 60 liters to 65 liters per second. The compound of wet tires has also been modified to enhance performances in both damp and dry conditions, increasing the crossover point to the intermediate tires.
To improve safety levels and performance in Formula One competitions, important changes to the FIA F1 Sporting Regulations have also been introduced regarding the testing of tires. Pirelli will continue to determine the specification of the tires and to manage all aspects of their development, in close cooperation with the FIA and the teams, and within the parameters set out in the FIA F1 Sporting & Technical Regulations. In addition, Pirelli and the FIA have agreed to discuss a possible partnership on the FIA Action for Road Safety campaign in the near future.
Aside from showcasing a fabulous white Ferrari 458 Spider, visitors to the Pirelli booth also queued up to join their F1 racing simulator contest at their pavilion.
