MotoGP Gran Premio Red Bull de la Republica Argentina: Three for three
The “phenom” of MotoGP, Marc Marquez, clinched his third pole position of the 2014 season. Jorge Lorenzo, on board his Yamaha, was alongside the Spaniard, while Repsol Honda rider, Dani Pedrosa stood third on the grid. Fan favorite Valentino Rossi was further down at sixth riding his Movistar Yamaha.
As the race went underway, Marquez had a bit of a glitch and was jumped by Lorenzo and the front runners on the first lap. Marquez slid down as far as sixth, but, showing patience for his age, the phenom just went about his race and picked off opponents one by one. With 8 laps to go, Marquez overtook the Yamaha of Lorenzo for the lead.
Marquez never looked back. He took the checkered flag, 1.8 seconds ahead of eventual second placer, Dani Pedrosa in the other Repsol Honda. “I didn’t expect to stay in first position for so many laps. Finally Marc went past me. He was too strong,” said Jorge Lorenzo, who after leading most of the race, crossed the line in third.
Rossi for a time was up into second, but this was not meant to be as he went wide on two occasions and eventually finished just off the podium in fourth.
Marquez took his third win out of three races in the 2014 season, and leads the championship standings. He was won the three races from pole position. He is 19 points ahead of number two man, Dani Pedrosa. Valentino Rossi is keeping the Yamaha brand in the mix by taking third spot in the rankings. Due to his misfortunes at the first two races, Lorenzo is way back in seventh.
MotoGP will be back in Europe for the Gran Premio bwin de España on May 4.
