Jaguar launches all-new XE sedan

Jaguar has launched its long-awaited XE C-segment sedan to compete with the likes of the BMW 3 Series and Mercedes-Benz C-Class. Jaguar says that the XE is a true driver’s car, with outstanding ride and handling. Power for high-performance S model comes from a supercharged 3.0-liter V6, good for 345ps and a robust 450Nm. 0-96kph acceleration is 4.9 seconds, with top speed of 250kph (electronically-limited). An 8-speed ZF automatic is offered, with the trademark rotary shifter and paddle shifts.

XE measures 4672mm long x 1850mm wide x 1416mm height, with a long 2835mm wheelbase. The car is built on a new Jaguar-Land Rover modular vehicle platform. The car reportedly makes intensive use of aluminum, in the body, frame, and suspension. The S model will use 20-inch wheels. Curb weight is 1474 kg. The XE features Jaguar’s first electric power steering.

Jaguar XE features a leather and wood-trimmed interior. A high degree of customization is reportedly possible. A heads-up display using lasers will project car information and navigation onto the windshield. Like Subaru’s Eyesight system, the XE will use stereo cameras to activate its collison-avoidance system. It can fully brake the car if an obstacle is detected.

Its 8-inch capacitive touchscreen head unit includes Bluetooth audio streaming and USB connectivity. The map has a pinch-to-zoom function. A Meridian audio system will be available, with 250 watts all the way to a 15-speaker, 825-watt surround system.

The new Jag will feature a sophisticated traction control system, developed with Land Rover, that will optimize traction in slipper conditions at low speeds.

The XE goes on sale globally in 2015, with North America following in 2016. The XE will be a critical car for Jaguar as it seeks more unit sales to better compete with its formidable German rivals.
