BMW has launched the second-generation X1, a compact crossover. The all-new X1 promises more interior space and better fuel efficiency. The X1 will be a front-wheel drive car, using the platform of the 2 Series Active Tourer. The xDrive all-wheel drive system will be available. The all-wheel drive system uses an electro-hydraulically controlled multi-plate clutch.

The interior will have more head and legroom, with 38mm more legroom for the second row. An available adjustable rear seat boosts legroom by up to 66mm compared to the previous model. The rear seat can be reclined or power-folded for greater passenger comfort or luggage space. Cargo space is up 15 percent. In BMW fashion, the center console is canted towards the driver. The tailgate is powered and can be operated hands-free. A panoramic moonroof is available. The iDrive interior controller will have a 6.5 or 8-inch monitor.
The X1 will have adapative LED headlights and head-up display and dynamic cruise control. It will run on standard 18-inch run-flat tires, with 19-inch tires as options. Deliveries will start in October 2015.
