The driver of a passenger jeepney was shot in the head by an angry pedestrian outside a busy mall in Makati City on Thursday afternoon.

The victim, Jerick Accad, 35, of Western Bicutan, Taguig City, nearly hit the pedestrian who got angry, pulled out a gun, and shot the victim at point blank range, witnesses said.

Witness Miriam Nazaleta, 38, said that before the shooting, the driver tried to apologize to the man with the gun to no avail.

The gunman slapped the driver once and caused a cut on his left eyebrow. Then, the gunman pointed a handgun to the head of the driver and pulled the trigger.

The incident that happened at about 3 pm along Arnaiz Avenue near the corner of Chino Roces Avenue was witnessed by about a dozen pedestrians.

Another witness, Christian Torres, said the jeepney almost hit the man as it turned left from Chino Roces into Arnaiz.

Witnesses described the gunman as about 5 foot 7 inches tall, bulky, with a “shiny, bald head” and appeared to limp when he walked. He was also said to be wearing a yellow T-shirt.

The victim was taken by the Barangay Pio del Pilar Rescue to Makati Medical Center.

He was last reported in guarded condition. Cenon Bibe/JE
