Volvo launches all-new XC90, turns 21 in PH

By Jason K. Ang October 28,2015

VOLVO revealed the all-new XC90 SUV at the North Court of the Power Plant Mall in Rockwell recently.

The XC90 is a seven-seat premium SUV with Volvo’s world-leading safety features and higher levels of design and finish.

The face of the XC90 shows off Volvo’s new corporate grille with a more prominent “iron” logo and T-shaped “Thor’s Hammer” daytime running lights.

The new XC90 is available with a 2-liter, four-cylinder engine dubbed Drive-E that promises better fuel efficiency. There’s also a twin-turbo diesel engine with 225 horsepower and 470 Newton-meters on tap.

The top T6 option comes with a supercharger and turbo, delivering 320 HP and 400 Nm. The engines are mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission.

Volvo promises the most comfortable seats in its class, with lots of room for both second- and third-row passengers. The third row can reportedly comfortably accommodate passengers up to 170 centimeters tall.

Volvo’s Sensus interface features a tablet-like touchscreen center console that eliminates a multitude of buttons, allowing theoretically simpler operation.

Seats and surfaces are trimmed in napa leather and wood, with diamond-cut controls for the start-stop button and audio volume control.

The all-new XC90 has a base price of P5.6 million.

Celebration

Volvo Philippines is also celebrating its 21st anniversary. In its first full year of operations, the company earned the Volvo Diamond Award, given to distributors with outstanding performance in sales, parts and customer satisfaction.

Arcilla said the company has always strived to surprise and delight its customers, and not just with the quality of the cars and service. “We try to find new ways to help our customers enjoy more with a Volvo.”

The company also announced that Volvo owners will enjoy a 50-percent dining discount at the restaurants of Chef Jessie Sincioco up to March 2016.

More than 4,000 Volvo cars are now on Philippine roads. Volvo Cebu, Volvo North Edsa, Volvo Alabang and Volvo Iloilo are among the newer dealers in its network.
