2011 Chrysler 200 New Photos

October 13,2010

When it comes to sedans, Chrysler is something of a one-trick pony (the aging Sebring notwithstanding). The middle-aged but still very distinctive 300 is about to have company—the Italian-American car company will launch the smaller mid-sized 200 in 2011.

Following the trend for smaller engines, the 200’s base engine will be a 2.4-liter inline-four. That will mate to either a four-speed (!) or six-speed automatic. A 3.6-liter V6 with a six-speed auto will be the optional engine. Chrysler promises quality materials in leather and cloth, and plenty of touch-worthy plastics.

The 300’s primary attraction is its in-your-face styling, which the 200 clearly lacks (at least in photos). The amorphous front end looks similar to any of several brands, from Toyota to Hyundai. The rear-end is handsome and clean, but likewise distressingly generic. Will Chrysler be better off selling Alfa Romeos? The market will decide, when the 200 goes on sale (in the USA) by the end of 2010.
