As the Rooster crows at the dawn of the Chinese New Year, we bring you some practical tips to enhance the spiritual well-being of your car and yourself, the driver.
You may enhance your fortune by practicing some of the principles of Feng shui. Feng shui is a system for enhancing one’s harmony with the environment. Feng shui is based on the physical realities, and thus has some basis in practicality.
Here are some tips to crow your way to greater success on the road and beyond:
Clean and cleanse your car
The best and most basic advice of Feng shui is to clean your car.
Remove all clutter and make sure that all dirt is removed. This is particularly true of the interior.
Months of use have likely left debris and unneeded items in your car’s various storage areas. Remove all of these—and immediately.
Feng shui consultant Richard Yu advises that cleaning should be done during the day and by hand.
Cleaning by hand removes any accumulated bad luck. Drying the car under the sun helps, as the sun is also a cleansing tool.
Check the tires and undersides as well, and remember to look inside the trunk or cargo area.
The interior should be vacuumed and sanitized. If you lack the time or equipment, now’s your chance to have the car interior cleaned and detailed.
The car aircon’s filter element should be cleaned or changed periodically.
You will no doubt feel the restorative energy of a newly-cleaned car interior.
Clean your garage, too
As the garage is your car’s home, you should also take time to clean it when it’s empty.
Scrub the garage floor with water mixed with non-iodized salt.
Dry it, then rinse again. The recommended scrubbing direction is inside to outside, and clockwise.
Feel the spiritual side
If you feel strongly about maintaining a harmonious environment within the car, you may bring the car for a blessing, for example by bringing the car to church together with your family.
Feng shui expert Yu recommends doing this at dawn or during the early morning mass.
Family members should also take the chance to be cleansed by going to confession or going to a church service.
Doing charity work can also improve one’s spiritual well being.
Choose the right color
This being the year of the Fire Rooster, there is is a tendency towards flame, symbolizing action.
As fire can also be destructive, it has to be balanced by the Earth element.
Feng shui master Yu recommends Earth colors to balance the Fire element. Earth colors would be the yellow to deep orange. However, don’t go for the bright orange like those used in rescue vehicles.
Brown is also a good choice, but not dark brown. The best would be a yellow close to a gold shade.
For those getting married this year, or those renewing their vows, a good choice for transport according to master Yu is a gold-colored car.
Watch out
Road rage might exact a high price this Year of the Rooster, according to master Yu. The incidents of road rage may worsen on the lunar month before, during and just after Ghost Month of this year (centering around August 22).
If you have crossed any folks in recent years, better to mend your relationships while there’s still time.
Also watch out for erratic weather patterns. Pay attention to weather news and news about road conditions.
While driving, it’s best to keep distractions to a minimum.
Remove from the driver’s line of sight items that don’t serve any useful purpose.
Tune in to soothing music to keep the chaos of the outside world at bay.
Distracted driving acts such as texting while driving are not only against the law, but disruptive of one’s spiritual well-being while driving.
Heading Northwest, West, Southwest and South are considered relatively unlucky this year.
If going in one of those directions, better to recite a driver’s prayer, or do some charitable acts to help ward off bad luck.
Keep up your good spirits
Above all, keep a positive mindset, suggests Master Yu, and don’t excessively worry.
The law of attraction works, so better to attract positive energy.
Take part in joyous celebrations, letting the positive energy from happy people and occasions transfer to you.
