Sweet-toothed thieves run off with truckful of Nutella, Kinder eggs worth $58,000 in Germany

August 15,2017

For German thieves, a chocolate-filled heist was a sweet success.

BBC reports that 20,000 kilograms of Nutella and Kinder Surprise eggs were stolen in Neustadt, located at central Germany. The goods had an estimated value of $58,000 (around P3 million).

An average-sized jar of creamy hazelnut Nutella is 375 grams while one Kinder egg is 20 grams.

The chocolate goods were in a trailer being pulled by a truck as it was being transported to another part of the country. Only the trailer was reported to have been stolen.

Police were investigating if the heist was related to the case of a missing semitrailer in the same weekend. They were also determining if the sweets were deliberately stolen, reports German outlet The Local.

In 2013, about 4,500 kg of Nutella was stolen in another part of central Germany, Bad Hersefeld, according to the Associated Press.  Niña V. Guno /ra
