THE Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) deployed 2500 personnel on June 3 to manage traffic as Metro Manila schools start holding classes.
MMDA chairman Danilo Lim said the traffic personnel are on duty before 5 a.m. on Monday and the succeeding days when other schools start to open classes.
“We shall field traffic personnel in traffic-prone areas around the metropolis and monitor traffic situation on roads leading to schools so we can easily augment personnel when needed,” Lim said.
Teroy Taguinod, MMDA traffic discipline office chief, said district traffic heads have been ordered to coordinate with school authorities and local traffic officials to discuss measures on how to ease traffic within the vicinity of schools.
“We have coordination with some school administrators to allow picking up and dropping off of students inside school premises so as not to obstruct vehicular flow on school zones,” said Taguinod.
The MMDA said traffic congestion in the vicinity of schools cause a spill over of vehicles on EDSA and other major roads in Metro Manila.
