THE tennis star became Kia’s brand ambassador in Spain when he was only 17, a rising talent on the court. This was in 2004. Two years later, Rafael “Rafa” Nadal was signed up as global Kia brand ambassador. So the two this year, just as Nadal is wowing the center court at Wimbledon, is celebrating 15 years of continuous partnership.
Nadal has featured in a series of Kia campaigns over the years, and the carmaker said the athlete has been instrumental in generating greater levels of confidence in and awareness of the Kia brand. Nadal’s presence, Kia said, has also contributed to making Kia one of the most recognized and desirable brands globally.
Over the past 15 years Nadal has earned a reputation as the most successful Spanish tennis player ever — and one of the world’s all-time greats. Nadal won his 12th French Open this year, as well as his 18th Grand Slam trophy. Fact is, he has won more matches on clay courts than any other player.
Kia, for itself, has actively participated in the Rafa Nadal Foundation since this was established in 2014 and has supported the tennis star with the Rafa Nadal Academy and youth tennis tournament.
“Throughout the last 15 years, Kia and Rafa Nadal have developed a winning partnership based on passion, hard work and overcoming the odds. Rafa has played an important role in raising awareness of the Kia brand, not just across Europe, but in many of Kia’s markets worldwide. As his career has flourished, so too has Kia developed into a major player in the automotive sector,” said Kia Motors Europe chief operating officer Emilio Herrera.
