POLICE on Friday morning temporarily closed off the underpass at the intersection of EDSA and Shaw Boulevard, causing traffic to grind to a halt on Metro Manila’s busiest thoroughfare, after a suspicious box was discovered abandoned in the area.
The box, placed on the center island of the underpass, was found by Metropolitan Manila Development Authority personnel, who reported it to the police.
Members of the Mandaluyong City police’s Explosive Ordinance Division inspected the box to determine its contents, necessitating the closure of a lane each of EDSA’s northbound and southbound lanes.
The box was found to contain only styrofoam. Authorities reopened the lanes past noon.
