Honda Cars Philippines, Inc. (HCPI) hinted at its aspirations for the all-new 2020 Honda Accord by hosting a press preview at the select Blackbird restaurant in Makati.
Instead of buffet fare which is the common setting for a new car model launch, HCPI served the guests a sit-down, gourmet luncheon at one of the best fine dining places in the country.
The distinctive ambience heralded what was to come: the unveiling outdoors on the patio of Honda’s newest luxury sedan, the 10th iteration of the brand’s second longest running nameplate in its global lineup, designed a class above the midsize executive sedan segment for the next generation.
As HCPI president Noriyuki Takakura told his guests, “The all-new Accord presents itself as the embodiment of what Honda stands for in innovation, safety and advanced technology, elevating further the image of what a midsize sedan should be.”
PREMIUM, BOLDER
EXTERIOR DESIGN
Developed under the grand concept “Absolute Confidence,” the 2020 Accord offers a premium and bolder design, a more powerful 1.5-liter VTEC turbo engine and the advanced Honda Sensing safety technology.
The all-new Accord was built on a new platform and presents a streamlined yet elegant overall exterior profile due to its wider stance, lower roofline and a dramatically longer and lower hood.
The bold and upright front fascia is highlighted by Honda’s signature chrome wing grille and wing-shaped LED headlights with auto leveling and high beam.
The lower roofline and sharp upswept bodylines plus strong wheel arches and concave door panels create a stylish, dynamic appeal.
Aggressive, cleverly designed and engineered 18-inch Noise-Reducing Alloy Wheels complete the commanding look.
The rear features a brightly trimmed rear fascia that is as athletic and energetically designed as the front end, with a slightly longer overhang. The C-shaped LED taillights compliment the design of the front LED DRLs.
LARGER, TECH-SAVVY
INTERIOR
The more premium and tech-savvy interior compliments the Accord’s elegant new body design and more refined and athletic driving character.
The cabin is fitted with premium, high quality, and soft-touch materials with tasteful application of leather, wood, and metal accents.
The wider body and longer wheelbase improve cabin space, especially at the back where an additional 48mm of legroom provides more comfort for the rear passengers.
Cargo capacity is also improved measuring 573 liters of trunk space, 123 liters more than its predecessor.
ADVANCED TECH FEATURES
The array of advanced technology features found in the all-new Accord compares with those in vehicles from a class higher, elevating driver and passenger convenience to a higher level.
A 7-inch Thin Film Transistor (TFT) display on the left side of the instrument panel presents a wide range of vehicle information with an upscale yet easy-to-read layout while the speedometer is on the right side.
The 2020 Accord also sports a new 8-inch Display Audio system, one of the most advanced systems offered by Honda to date.
The touchscreen lets you control the audio system, display settings, Honda Sensing functions and other advanced features through swipe, tap and pinch gestures. The system has a simplified menu structure and customizable shortcuts for commonly used features and applications.
The system also comes with Navigation and supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Smart Key with Push Button Start and Remote Engine Start, Walk Away Auto Lock and Speed Sensing Door Lock, electric parking brake with auto brake hold and auto dimming rear view mirror are also found in the new Accord.
HONDA SENSING AND SAFETY
The Honda Sensing system aids the driver to effectively respond to dangerous driving situations. The driver assistance features provide advanced safety features such as collision mitigation braking system, adaptive cruise control with low speed follow, lane keeping assist, road departure mitigation and auto high beam.
A millimeter-wave radar in the front bumper and a monocular camera mounted on the upper, inside part of the windshield work simultaneously to monitor and assess various conditions in front of the car and give feedback to the driver by providing corrective actions to help prevent a collision.
Aside from Honda Sensing, there are other safety features such as six airbags, vehicle stability assist, hill start assist, ABS with EBD, emergency stop signal, front and rear parking sensors, multiview reverse camera with guidelines, lane watch camera and straight driving assist.
REFINED SENSE OF POWER
The 10th generation Accord is equipped with Honda’s new VTEC DOHC 1.5-liter turbocharged engine that delivers more horsepower and torque than its 2.4 liter naturally aspirated predecessor. Max output is rated at 190 PS /5,500 rpm and 243 Nm of torque from 1,500-5,500 rpm.
Power is transmitted through a Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) which, together with the Earth Dreams Technology-based engine, provides responsive performance, acceleration and efficient fuel economy.
With an advanced valve control system that conducts intake, valve lift, timing, and duration in extraordinary accuracy, high fuel efficiency and low emission are achieved at heretofore unforeseen levels.
To optimize driving dynamics, Sport Mode is now available that enhances the Accord’s throttle and steering response. The paddle shifters give you greater control over the CVT’s operation and power delivery.
At the same time, to help you achieve fuel-efficient driving, Honda’s Eco Assist System consisting of the ECON mode and Eco-Coaching Ambient Light is still available.
SUGGESTED RETAIL PRICE
HCPI offers via its 38 dealerships nationwide only the top-of-the line variant of the 2020 Accord with a suggested retail price of Php 2,288,000.
It will be available in three colors: Platinum White Pearl (special color addition P20,000), Modern Steel Metallic and Crystal Black Pearl.
The SRP is indicative of the class to which the all-new Accord belongs: luxury midsize sedan made in Japan, a class over and above the midsize executive sedan.
