All-new Toyota Verso S First Photos

September 01,2010

Remember the Toyota Echo verso? It was, in effect, the MPV version of the Toyota Echo, with a much taller roofline, collapsible rear seats, and a huge rear door. It was so roomy that it actually had shelves near the ceiling, a la jetliner or the Starex Limousine RV. Treasured by lovable Top Gear auto writers and captains of industry alike, it had the potential to bust beyond its segment. Alas, the lack of an automatic transmission did it no favors in the marketplace. Also, it looked like a dorkmobile; in the immortal words of one security guard we encountered, it looked like an ice-delivery truck.

In Europe, where they love quirky designs, the Verso is alive and well. The latest version, called the Verso-S, will soon debut. The all-new model no longer looks like the best friend of the Fiat Multipla; in fact, the new wedge-shaped hatchback is a dead ringer for the Honda Jazz. Arrowhead-shaped lights, as popularized by the Nissan 370Z and Toyota’s own Prius, add a neat bit of style.

Within the sub-four meter space will reportedly be a spacious and airy cabin. Ice-delivery truck looks are no longer standard.
