Volvo Cars Philippines launches the all-new S60 sedan. The successor to the very attractive and underrated first-generation S60 has labeled itself as the “naughty Volvo.”
The naughty bit purportedly refers to the car’s newfound dynamic and driver-oriented personality. The slinky styling follows in the vein of the XC60. There are hard creases and angles in the car’s face and profile, and they all follow a seemingly wind-sculpted path. The separate LED driving light at the front adds a bit of personality. The rear (both the profile and the taillights) looks similar to that of the previous-generation Civic.
The nice part is the interior, one in the classic clean and stylish Volvo design theme. The sculpted seats and leather-and-metal trim look like they belong in a Poltrona Frau catalog. The floating-panel center console is now canted more towards the driver.
Two models are available at launch: the T6 AWD and the 2.0T front-wheel drive. The T6 carries a 3.0 liter inline-six with 304 bhp and 440 Nm. The 2.0 is no slouch: it’s good for 203 bhp and 300 Nm (from as low as 1750 rpm). The 3.0 mates to a six-speed automatic while the 2.0 comes with six-speed dual-clutch transmission.
Chief among the S60’s safety features is City Safety, an electronic driver aid that brakes the car when it detects a stopped car or pedestrians blocking its path. Full braking to a complete halt is possible. Other safety features include adaptive lights; stability control; ABS disc brakes ; front, side and curtain airbags; anti-whiplash seats; and a rigid body structure.
