Hyundai Lateral Drift Championship opens Aug.31-Sept.1 at Libis Mega Tent

Hyundai Asia Resources Inc. (HARI), the exclusive distributor of Hyundai vehicles in the Philippines, is this year’s Title Sponsor of the 2013 Hyundai Lateral Drift Pro-Am Championship Series. Now dubbed as the “Hyundai Lateral Drift Championship Series powered by the Genesis Coupe,” a total of six rounds are scheduled to run this year. The partnership between Hyundai and Lateral Drift (LD) is a three-year commitment to the sport; it is also the first time for a car manufacturer or distributor the Philippines to fully support the sport of drifting.

The drifters will have a new challenge for 2013 as veteran D1 Grand Prix and Formula Drift drivers Kimihiro Obata and Hiromi Kajikuma from Japan will be flown to the country to judge each round. Not only will this force the drifters to improve on their performance, but also allow for more exciting battles throughout the year. LD Productions’ goal is to help the driver excel to international standards and to open it to international competitors. This would be ideal for local competitors since it would be more cost effective than to race in international circuits.

All drivers are pumped up to start the sideways action, Rounds 1 and 2 of the new season is scheduled on August 31 and September 1, 2013 to be held at the Mega Tent Events Venue at Libis, Quezon City.

Catch six-time Lateral Drift Champion Alex Perez defend his crown from top caliber drifters nationwide. These include 2011 Champion Audel Sison, international-driver David Feliciano, Boodie Dabasol, celebrity Ryan Agoncillio, and “Pilipinas Got Talent” Season 4 Grand Finalists Gio Rodriguez and Ralph Tan.

On top of the competition, spectators will get the chance to win drift rides with the international judges and PGT 4 finalists Ralph and Gio in a 2013 Hyundai Genesis Coupe. To get a chance to win log on to the Hyundai Philippines Facebook page and caption a certain photo. The best captions win shotgun rides. Also catch the KTM Motorcycle Stunt Team during the halftime show and win raffle prizes from Dickies Clothing and Aguila Auto Glass.

The 2013 Hyundai Lateral Drift Pro-Am Championship Series is also co-presented by the leader in Motorcar Insurance Company, Standard Insurance Co. Inc.

Lateral Drift Championships is the first and only drifting series in the Philippines organized by Lateral Drift Productions.  It’s now on its eighth season which started in 2006.

Admission is free to spectators. The action starts at 8:00 am for the practice run, followed by the qualifying amateur and Pro starting 1:00 pm onwards.
