Bacoor traffic enforcers ‘shock’ motorist with taser, suspended

A viral video of a heated confrontation between traffic enforcers and a motorist and his passengers due to a supposed traffic violation in Bacoor City recently made the rounds online.

In the video first posted by a certain Kheo Avejar last Feb. 4, he said the unnamed sales manager of his company and his employees were flagged down by traffic enforcers in front of SM Molino in Bacoor City due to a supposed traffic violation.

In the video, it can be seen that the sales manager, who was also the driver of the truck, was grilling the enforcers on the violation he supposedly committed. He also refused to park his vehicle on the side of the road until his violation has been explained to him.

“Wala akong violation, chief. Pasensiya na po kayo. Hindi ko alam kung bakit ako pinapara,” the unnamed driver said.

The driver’s action seemed to irk one of the four traffic enforcers who told the driver: “Pinapagilid ka lang para mag-usap tayo. Napatigas talaga ng ulo mo. Kanina ka pa.”

The same traffic enforcer then saw one of the passengers who was taking the video of the incident and tried to get the tablet. They were all then asked to get off the vehicle but they stood their ground.

One of the traffic enforcers was then heard saying, “Matitigas kayo, ayaw niyong tumabi!” The sound of a taser was heard, followed by a shout of a man screaming. One of the passengers was heard saying “Harassment yan, sir!”

In a statement posted on his official Facebook account early Sunday, Bacoor City Mayor Strike Revilla said the traffic enforcers in the viral video had been suspended and that the city government was investigating the incident.

“Ang mga traffic enforcer na involved sa insidente ay kasalukuyan ng sinuspinde. Makakaasa po kayo na ang lahat po ay idadaan sa tamang proseso at imbestigasyon,” Revilla said.

The mayor said that he was inviting the driver of the vehicle to file an administrative or criminal complaint against the traffic enforcers.

Revilla said that traffic enforcers underwent physical, medical, and drug tests and were briefed and trained before they were accepted for the job.

He said his administration did not condone the corrupt ways of traffic enforcers.

“Ang pamunuan ng BTMD (Bacoor Traffic Management Division) at si Mayor Strike Revilla ay hindi kinukunsinti ang tiwali at maling gawain ng mga traffic enforcers,” he said.

The video shared by Avejar has since been “liked” more than 7,600 times and shared by more than 26,600 Facebook users. AJH
